Overview:  Under the supervision of the ASCH Board of Directors, produces two issues of Connecticut History each year, and, as all members of the Board, works to promote ASCH at various functions and events held by ASCH and other organizations. 

1.  Produces Connecticut History.  There are two issues, one in the spring and one in the fall.  They generally appear in May and November, respectively.

2.   Prepares all manuscripts for publication in the journal.  That includes editing and corresponding with the author once initial edits have been made.  All articles must be formatted with a macro program for printing.

3. Corresponds with both the Book Review Editor and Exhibitions Review Editor to make sure that their respective sets of reviews arrive in a timely manner for publication. Once the reviews arrive, they need to be edited for style and formatted with the macro program.

4.   Receives article and essay submissions for publication consideration and notifies authors that articles or essays have been received. 

5.  Sends submitted work out for peer review.  Most articles and essays are sent to at least two reviewers.  Often, one reviewer is a member of the editorial board.  Determines whether submissions are accepted, denied, or provides suggestions for revisions and resubmission and sends notification along with reviewers’ reports to authors.

6.  Solicits articles or essays from historians working on Connecticut related topics. 

7.   Prepares all materials for the printing of Connecticut History.  That includes preparation of all printer forms (all of which can be done electronically), transferring those forms and all items in a journal issue to the printer (again, all of this is done electronically), sending an updated mailing list to the printer (electronically), receiving and approving all proofs sent by the printer;  makes sure that the journal’s masthead is correct and up to date; and sends the printer the new image for the front of each issue.

8.   Prepares all grant proposals for the Connecticut Humanities Council (CHC) and   abides by CHC guidelines by sending a press release for each issue of the journal, sending letters of thanks to senators and representatives from the district in which the journal is produced, and performing other promotional  tasks that the CHC deems necessary.

9.  Submits grant proposals to the President and Treasurer for review and signatures.

10.   Nominates members of the editorial board for ASCH Board approval. 

11.  Organizes editorial board meetings (generally one per year).  Corresponds with editorial board members to get suggestions for reviewers and other journal related matters.

12.  Maintains a list of reviewers for future articles and book reviews.

13.   Maintains a submission list of all authors who submit articles and essays, including contact information, dates that articles are sent to reviewers, who the reviewers are, when the reviewers promise reports, and the decision made on the submission.

14.   Should an editor continue the curriculum unit of the journal, s/he will need to choose an article for curriculum use and work with one or a group of experienced teachers to prepare a curricular unit based on the chosen article.  This includes the actual unit plan, an historical site essay, a primary source documents piece, and a website review essay.

15.   Solicits advertisements for the journal.

16.   Does promotion or marketing deemed necessary for the success of the journal.

17.  Provides a formal written editor’s report on the whole year’s activities at the December Board meeting in addition to making reports at the regular meetings.
